Dear my friend,

You have been telling me that you want to go back to Hong Kong to join the protest together. I know you have your duty in Korea so I think I can share with you by writing you letter, to update you more first-hand situation here.

Thank God, the rallies happened last weekend and Sunday probably is the most peaceful and less worried in these three month since the protests started. No police there will be Peace. I was there at Victory Park at 1pm, just an hour before the rally but already full of people in black shirt. While I was waiting for the rally, we are chatting in Whatsapp*, you told me that many Koreans still have no idea how the protests be organized, who is leading the movement. I wonder isn't the Korean press didn't aware this anti-extradition bill movement is no longer like umbrella movement in 2014, or any movements ever had. There is no one single political leader(like Joshua Wong) or political parties leading the movement. This movement is "leading" by the young people and using a new way to communicate during the movement. Not like the traditional way of mobilizing, no leaders, no politicians, everyone work spontaneously. LIHKG and telegram is the main platform for discussions, making decisions, and sharing opinions. (I have never heard LIHKG before, the discussion platform for 10s and 20s, you know we are in 30s now.) The way of young people to demonstrate Democracy is very impressive. I hope you still remember the frontline young protesters voted via telegram to decide to depart from Legislative council on 1st July midnight. I have joint one of the telegram group which is a promotion group that people design high quality posters, videos with different languages. All work spontaneously.

The young people is the frontline fighters, most of them are from the early 20s and well educated. Though, sometimes they might have some “violent” actions(well, you know most of the HK people are “Peace, Rational, and non-violence” believer) that the adults might not agree, but you know what I saw on Sunday, a young protester hold a placard said, “We are now here with you to rally peacefully. Thank you for standing behind us and never abandon us. You might not totally agree the way we do, but we still insist. 8.18 “Peace” and “Brave” together”. The other side he wrote, “Young people, Sorry. Because we losed 5 years ago(the umbrella movement) so you people are suffering this summer. I hope one day, we can meet at Legislative Council without masks and eyewears.” I saw a middle-aged man go and give a big hug to this young protester. I can't stop crying because we do respect each other, we connected, we are one.

Let us take a rest for few days, I will write to you again for updating the news in Hong Kong. Take care.
